2012 Detroit Auto Show – Acura NSX Concept

Acura NSX Concept, Although refusing to comment on whether it will share any/many exterior design cues with the 2007-era Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept pictured here, the automaker has confirmed that an all-new Acura NSX Concept will appear at the Detroit Auto Show. One inside source told kbb.com that this latest one-off will spawn a production model slated to go on sale within 36 months of its reveal in January.

Although specific details are being kept under wraps, we do know that the Acura NSX Concept is a mid-engine/two-seat coupe that will use a bespoke variation on Honda’s recently announced electric SH-AWD (Super Handling-All Wheel Drive) system that was developed for hybrid applications in larger vehicles. In its conventional form, this electric SH-AWD package matches a 3.5-liter V6 that drives the front wheels with a pair of independently controlled electric motors at each rear wheel as well as a third electric motor in a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Given the NSX Concept’s mirror-image powertrain configuration, the drive motors will be fitted to its front wheels. Most speculation assumes the 3.5-liter V6 also will appear in the NSX Concept; however Acura has yet to shed any light on that particular aspect of the vehicle or offer on any insights regarding how the SH-AWD system has been modified for this specific application. Here is the source CarMild news update.
